No casualties after fire engulfs dhows on Dubai Creek

Dubai CreekThe blaze started on the Deira side about 3pm.

Fire crews were called to the incident and spent hours tackling the fire, which spread to at least two dhows and cargo on the dock.

Civil defence teams from at least five fire stations were on the scene within minutes.

A Dubai Civil Defence spokesman told 7DAYS about 5pm that the fire was large but under control. He said there were no known casualties.

“We received the call at 3.04pm and rushed to the scene. Our teams are still fighting the fire,” the spokesman added.

The burning cargo included tyres and paper. Strong winds helped to spread the fire and dozens of labourers and residents were told to move back to help fire vehicles reach the location.
