Health and safety conscious schools receive IOSH-sponsored awards

Maltings Academy picked up the Excellence in Health and Safety accolade while Leas Park Junior School scooped the Innovation in Health and Safety gong.

Both awards were presented by Tim Briggs, Immediate Past President of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), which sponsored the two categories.

Tim said it is vital that health and safety is a priority for schools as it allows children to learn about dealing with risks from a young age.

He said: “IOSH is very happy to be involved in these awards. It is great to hear about how schools are taking health and safety so seriously.

“Safety is a philosophy that allows people to grow, develop and be educated, so it is very important in schools.

“If young children realise that they can look after themselves using sensible measures they will learn to develop risk knowledge and deal with more complex risks in the future.”
