Company fined after worker falls through skylight
An Exeter roofing company has been fined after one of its employees fell through a roof light.
The employee of Haran Limited fell around 3 metres through the roof and onto the ground below, injuring his head, wrist and hip in the process, North and East Devon Magistrates’ heard.
He and two colleagues had been undertaking work on an asbestos cement roof to re-roof an adjoining industrial unit, formerly an agricultural unit that was being occupied as a gym.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) conducting an investigation into the incident, which occurred on 18 November 2014, and discovered that the work had not being sufficiently planned or supervised.
Haran Limited, of Clyst Road, Exeter, Devon, pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 4(1) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005, and received a fine of £18,00 and ordered to pay costs of over £4,000.
