Santia/The Food Safety Consortium supports Allergy Awareness Week
Food allergies are a growing health concern within the UK, with around 1-2% of adults and 5-8% of children reported to have a diagnosed food allergy. Sadly an average of 10 people die every year because of a food allergy.
To help spread awareness about food allergies, the Food Standards agency together with Allergy UK and the Anaphylaxis Campaign are running Allergy Awareness Week next week.
To support allergy awareness week our food safety experts from the Food Safety Consortium (FSC), will be holding allergen related Q&A sessions on our Santia LinkedIn page. To take part, simply post your questions on our LinkedIn page between 10am and 4pm on the following days next week and have one of our experts will provide you with invaluable allergen food safety advice.
Tuesday 29th April – Food Information Regulation Q&A
For those who manufacture, produce and sell food within the EU, there is a new food law on the horizon that will come into effect from 13th December 2014 (EU Food Information Regulation 1169/2011).
The new regulation will affect the way in which information relating to 14 key allergens is presented to consumers and will impact all food business operators including food manufacturers, retailers, takeaways, deli’s/café’s, schools, nurseries, hospitals and care homes.
To help food businesses understand the new regulation, the FSC’s Technical Manager, Gillian Avery-Smart will be online to answer any questions you may have, regarding how the Food Information Regulation will impact you food business.
Friday 2nd May – Food Safety and Allergen Management Q&A
The FSC’s Technical Manager for Governance, Jessica Robinson, is the author of Santia/The FSC’s soon to be launch Allergen Awareness eLearning course. Jess will be online on Friday 2nd May to answer any allergen food safety related questions customers may have.
