Surrey County Council shortlisted for an award

Santia is delighted to announce that Surrey County Council have been shortlisted for the Health at Work award at this year’s Personnel Today Awards taking place in London on November 18th  2014.

The award is an opportunity to showcase organisations that can demonstrate how specific employee health, fitness or wellbeing initiatives are making a positive impact on performance.
In the Health at work category, a total of eight organisations have been shortlisted. Full details of each nomination can be found here.

Surrey County Council is responsible for a number of local public services in Surrey. With more than 56,000 absence days recorded in 2008 and under-reporting, it was clear that the absence management process needed a rethink.

Santia’s team of Occupational Health and Wellbeing specialists have worked closely with Surrey over the past seven years and have helped to implement a range of initiatives including:

• Delivered bespoke emotional and mental wellbeing management master classes that focused on legal duty of care, creating healthy workplaces, supporting early signs of poor mental health and common conditions
• Worked in collaboration with Surrey County Council in managing sickness absence ensuring employees are directed to the correct form of treatment and support
• Built a model to support with remote case management and face to face consultations
• Worked closely with Surrey special schools looking at manual handling techniques to reduce staff injuries in this area

Sickness absence has been reduced from 12.5 days average per FTE per year to 6.5 days per FTE, almost halving the number of absence days (the current public-sector benchmark is 8.7 days). This has resulted in savings in excess of £10 million.

Personnel Today 2014 Judges’ comments:

Santia would like to wish Surrey Council the best of luck for the Awards evening.
